from the editors' note:
Thanks to its generous and growing community of (visual) artists, who took the time to write, read and vote, Sarmad Fiction Writing Club has made it for another year. This book is our second annual anthology.
This writing club works based on the premise that restricting the “visual” to what can be seen by the eye results in an exclusive and ocularcentric understanding of visual arts practices. We would like to argue that creative writing, and in this case, writing fiction, is a valid practice within the discipline of visual arts, because even though writing does not create “graphic” or “literal” imagery, it does actively employ dimensions of visuality such as “verbal”, “mental” and “perceptual” images.
Sarmad Fiction Writing Club works with flash fiction, which we define here as a story less than 600 words.
In each submission round, the submitted stories are spread within the club and the members vote on their favourite stories. The three most highly voted stories will receive a prize at the end of each round and a selection of stories will be published online. At the end of the year, we publish an anthology of the submitted works of fiction throughout the year.
